Bundling Home and Auto Insurance in Ohio: Is It Worth It?
Bundling, buying your home and car insurance from the same company, is one of the easiest ways to save. Advertised bundle discounts vary a lot by insurer. NerdWallet's 2026 review listed discounts of up to 40% at American Family, up to 30% at Amica and Country Financial, and 10% or more at Farmers. But a bundle isn't automatically the cheapest choice.
Why insurers reward bundles
Customers with two or more policies tend to stay longer, so insurers discount one or both policies to win them. The discount may be applied to the home policy, the auto policy or both. Ask how it's applied when you compare.
When bundling may not save you money
- You have tickets, accidents or credit problems. One insurer might price your car insurance high enough to cancel out the bundle discount.
- A regional insurer is much cheaper on one policy. Ohio has strong regional companies. Two separate policies from two different insurers can total less than any bundle.
- The "bundle" is through a partner company. Some insurers bundle by placing one of your policies with an affiliate, which can make claims and billing less convenient.
How to compare the right way
- Get a bundled quote from two or three companies.
- Get separate home and auto quotes from those same companies and at least one other.
- Compare total yearly cost with the same coverage limits and deductibles on every quote.
- Check renewal: some discounts shrink after the first year.
Other policies you can add
Many insurers also offer multi-policy discounts for renters, condo, umbrella, boat or motorcycle policies. If you rent, see our Ohio renters insurance guide.
